Make Plans to Attend Springfield Lobby Day:

April 16, 2008

The unforgettable phrase “government of the people, for the people, by the people” uttered by Abraham Lincoln in his Gettysburg Address rings as true today as it did 150 years ago.

That guiding principle of democracy succeeds only if we – the People - are willing to actively participate in our government, whether by just voting, or by getting directly involved in government at the local, state and national level.

In practical application, that means you have to “show up” in force if you want government officials to pay attention.

For example, the City of Naperville recently scaled back costly requirements in a proposed vacant lot ordinance after a group of concerned builders from Northern Illinois Home Builders Association voiced their objections.  In Kane County, the Village of Sugar Grove is reconsidering and even eliminating some of its impact fees after members of Greater Fox Valley HBA and Greater Chicago HBA met with village staff. And in the City of Elgin, builder and developer members from all three HBAs joined together to place a halt on a fee increase proposal that was fast-tracked for City approval.

Your voice matters but government officials won’t hear or listen unless you are willing to speak up or speak out.  And, doing so as part of a large group helps to get their attention and ensure that your message will be heard, loud and clear.

Text Box: HBAI Lobby Day
April 16, 2008
Springfield, IL

Now your voice is needed to join the home builder chorus in Springfield to fight state legislation that can hurt the home building industry.

On April 16th home builders from across the state will descend on the Illinois State Capitol Building to meet with our elected state officials to discuss the current housing climate, and propose new ideas to help Illinois’ economy rebound form the national decline.

HBAI and AHA are only as strong as our membership.  We need your assistance in lobbying your Representatives and Senators on a one-on-one basis.  Your personal acquaintance with an official can make a difference and help the home building industry gain a new ally.

Whether you are a Republican or Democrat, we are all representatives of the home building industry on April 16th.  This is your opportunity to change the climate in Springfield and set the course for the future.  Please make every effort to join us.

Check our website at www.ahabuilder.com for more information on the event, including upcoming legislation, lobbying tips and speaking points.  We would be happy to help arrange appointments with your legislators.

We look forward to seeing you in Springfield!
