Mission Statement
The Attainable Housing Alliance “AHA” represents the home building industry throughout northeastern Illinois on public policy issues that affect the attainability and ownership of housing. As part of this undertaking, AHA strives to:
- Inform, educate and mobilize members and the public in order to preserve the home buyer’s right to choose rather than be subject to unnecessary governmental mandates.
- Develop a unified, compelling voice for members through well researched, clearly articulated and widely communicated positions on matters of public policy affecting home building and home ownership.
- Implement a vigorous, proactive government relations campaign that represents the positions of AHA, in coordination with state and national affiliates— as well as through coalitions with other organizations that share our concerns.
Through coalition building; collaboration with municipal officials and others in drafting and re-vamping ordinances; and the pursuit of lawsuits, when necessary, to protect builders’ rights, AHA addresses a broad range of topics including:
- Impact and Add-on Fees
- Accessibility/Visitability Issues
- Smart Growth
- Property Rights
- Landscape/Open Space
- Requirements
- Affordable Housing Mandates
- Building & Re-Zoning Code
- Re-Writes
- Mandatory Sprinklers
- & Other Continually arising Issues Relevant to Home Builders and Home Buyers.
